Jump into ARC Raiders after the February 23, 2026 Update 1.17.0 and you'll feel it straight away: the "free kit, big results" era just got checked. For ages, squads were running bargain loadouts and still bullying teams in premium gear, and it was starting to look silly. This patch, shipped with the Shrouded Sky drop, is Embark's attempt to make higher-end equipment matter again without turning every fight into a coin flip. If you've been stocking up or comparing builds, it's the kind of change that makes you rethink what you bring out of the stash, including what you chase from ARC Raiders Items in the first place.

Close-Range Comfort Picks Get Uncomfortable

The Stitcher is the headline, and yeah, it hurts. The headshot multiplier fell from 2.5x to 1.75x, and base damage dropped from 7 to 6.5, which doesn't sound huge until you're mid-fight and realise your old "two bursts and done" rhythm is gone. On top of that, bloom ramps up hard if you just hold the trigger, so the old habit of spraying through panic moments gets punished. It's still usable if you've got tidy tracking and you feather shots, but it's not the brainless default anymore. The Kettle took a hit too, with damage down from 10 to 8.5; the headshot reward is still there, but in messy zones you'll feel the lower floor fast.

High-Tier Guns Finally Earn Their Price Tag

This is where the patch feels less like a slap and more like a nudge toward variety. Jupiter's ADS magnification and handling got tuned so it feels quicker to settle into mid-range angles, which matters when you're peeking lanes and don't want to wrestle your own weapon. Aphelion got a real glow-up: faster reloads, less vertical kick, and a higher fire rate, so it's not just a "nice on paper" gun anymore. It can actually hold a line and pick people off without you doing constant recoil babysitting. Venator got a small nerf, but it's not the kind that deletes it from your loadout screen.

Crafting, Healing, and the New Cost of Convenience

The utility changes are sneaky, but they'll shape raids over time. Wolfpack grenades now need a Rocketeer Drive alongside Tick Pods, which puts a real gate on how often you can spam them to wipe ARC mobs or force players off cover. Vita Spray also got changed to continuous healing instead of big chunks, so you can't game the timing as easily during a reset behind a door. And the economy nudge is clear: selling ARC Parts pays less, which pushes you to spend them on progression rather than treating them like a wallet you never open.

Bug Fixes and a Meta That's Less Forgiving

There's a big quality-of-life layer here too—vaulting looks smoother, ARC AI is a bit less clueless, and those NVIDIA Freestyle filter tricks are getting blocked, which a lot of people will quietly appreciate even if they won't say it out loud. The mood in the community is split because the patch hits habits, not just numbers: cheap kits won't carry you the way they did, and you'll need to think about range bands, reload windows, and whether your utility is worth its crafting cost. If you want to keep pace in Shrouded Sky, planning your runs and farming the right components matters more now, especially when you're hunting for Rare Material that actually supports the builds you're trying to play.
