RuneScape is one of the grandfathers of the MMORPG genre

The trade of virtual currencies to real-world currency can be a problem for many online games, disrupting in-game economies, unbalancing player experiences and turning games into pay-to-win situations. In OSRS Gold the trade of its digital 'gold' has been a problem that has led to bots mining the resourceand claims that the capability to purchase bonds in game in real money amounts to gambling.
The company has announced that Jagex has laid out plans to address the issue. In a recent blog post with the name "The RuneScape Team", Jagex declares that "gold purchased through RWT is a concern in any online game that uses any currency that can be traded" as well as that even though the "Anti-Cheating Team has done a lot in the fight against RWT sellers both inside as well out", it will be taking more severe measures from the moment it takes start.
Citing a "growing team " and "improved technology", Jagex says it will no longer solely be looking for sellers of gold or resources with RWT but as well buyers. The intention is to stem the demand, and the supply.
Jagex announces that it will be sending "messages to those we've identified as engaging to engage in"RWT" within "the coming hours". "For anyone who has been involved, we want to be clear - this is your sole or only warning" the company added.
Other measures that the developer may look at as punishments to punish RWT activities are expected to consist of wealth removal, which means eliminating gains made through illegal means from players' accounts on a server level - and possible bans.
RuneScape's PvP component, dubbed"The Duel Arena, will also be subject to more strict rules. Jagex claims that the feature "has been a source of this kind of shady behavior", and that 38 per cent of all bans imposed for RWT activity up until now are due to this part which the players play. The company says it has already amounted to "thousands of bans every month".
This is why the developer appears to be taking the more radical route, saying "we're contemplating in the near future to phase the Duel Arena out of RuneScape entirely." In the meantime it will introduce "some temporary steps" to clean up PvP "until our development teams are able to deliver an update major enough to completely will replace the Duel Arena next year."
These will include a cap to the total amount GP or gold points which players can stake on matches played in the Duel Arena with RS Gold. Players will be allowed to wager "no less than 50m GP per duel". Additional rules haven't been elaborated on yet.
