U4GM Diablo 4 Guide for Artificer Tiers and Pit Unlocks

If you're trying to unlock Artificer Tiers in Diablo 4, the trick is to stop thinking of them as a separate dungeon. They're part of the Pit interface, and they matter just as much as gear, Paragon progress, and strong diablo 4 items when you start pushing into harder endgame content. The basic loop is simple enough: enter the Pit, clear the highest Artificer Tier you can select, then check the menu again. When you beat your current top tier, the game should open the next batch of tiers for your account.

Where the Pit actually starts

The safest place to look is Cerrigar. That's where players most often point others when they ask where the Artificer's Pit is, and guide coverage also names the Artificer's Obelisk there. Interact with the Obelisk, choose the Artificer's Pit option, then look for the tier selector. Some coverage also mentions Temis as another Obelisk location, but that's less widely backed up. If you're lost or the Temis route doesn't seem right, go to Cerrigar first. Don't hunt for a normal dungeon door. The important part is the Obelisk menu.

How tier unlocking works

Artificer Tier progress isn't tied to your character level in the way many players expect. You can be "high enough" and still be stuck if you haven't cleared the right Pit tier. The rule described most clearly is that clearing your highest available tier unlocks five more tiers. So if you keep farming easier levels, you may get Glyph chances and practice, but you won't move the gate forward. Open the list, scroll if you have to, pick the highest available entry, and finish the run. That's the step people miss all the time.

Torment unlocks are the messy part

The broad idea is clear: higher Torment difficulties are unlocked through Pit progression, not by clicking the world difficulty statue and hoping it works. The exact breakpoints are less tidy. One newer guide says Torment 1 begins at Artificer Tier 10, with later Torment levels following additional five-tier milestones. A forum reply gives different numbers, saying Torment 2, Torment 3, and Torment 4 need Pit tiers 25, 40, and 55. Since those claims don't line up, treat the numbers with care. What you can trust is the action plan: keep clearing the highest tier available until the next Torment option opens.

Glyphs and seasonal roadblocks

The Pit also feeds into Paragon Glyph upgrades, which is why it's worth running even when you're not chasing a new Torment level that night. Higher Pit tiers can improve your upgrade chances, and low-level Glyphs may gain extra ranks after stronger clears, though the exact formula isn't clearly documented. If tiers still don't unlock, check your Seasonal Journey pages as well. Some players report early seasonal objectives blocking progress, but that part isn't fully confirmed. If you've cleared the needed tier, checked the menu, and still see nothing change, it may be a bug. At that point, tighten your build, review your unlock steps, and compare your setup with trusted community notes before spending gold or browsing u4gm Diablo 4 Items to patch a problem that might not be gear-related.
